Skipper to stand down at end of the season
Angmering Captain, Jim Hughes has confirmed his intention to stand down as skipper at the end of the 2016 season. After captaining the side for the past eight seasons, Jim has indicated the time is right to step aside due to other commitments.
“Collectively, the club has achieved a lot in the past 8 years, ranging from establishing a junior side, installing a new artificial wicket, leading on fundraising for a new sports club pavilion and securing sponsorships and fundraising to support the clubs running costs. Our greatest achievement has been seeing a number of youngsters develop and thrive as cricketers, both for Angmering and also representing other local sides who have league teams and I am very proud that against the odds, we kept a junior side going in the village for a number of seasons. It’s a disappointment that the junior set up couldn’t be maintained due to lack of new juniors joining the club – a community the size of Angmering should be able to support more junior clubs, including a cricket team”
“Despite a lack of players from the village, we continue to put out competitive teams for matches. I have sought to involve every player on match days – collective involvement and collective success has always been a key part of how I have approached the captaincy. We had a good season, results wise in 2015 and I hope that 2016 can follow that level of success in my final season as skipper.”
